Fukushima meltdown update: Cesium in the soil, ocean waters contaminated and fuel core meltdown now under way

by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
Thursday, March 31, 2011

Here are the latest developments on the Fukushima catastrophe, including quotes from a well-known physicist who is now raising the alarm over "three raging meltdowns" at the Fukushima complex.

• As the Wall Street Journal reports (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703806304576233221749626458.html), the U.S. government has now admitted that radiation is being found in milk from Washington state. They say it's "safe" to drink, of course. That's the U.S. government for you: Irradiated milk is safe, but raw milk is dangerous!

• The battle to save Fukushima is now over, as Japanese officials admit the nuclear power complex must now be abandoned and entombed (http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-1371793/Fukushima-nuclear-plant-entombed-concrete-Japan-admits-lost-battle-crippled-reactors.html?ito=feeds-newsxml). The Dailymail published, "officials said it would mean switching off all power and abandoning attempts to keep the nuclear fuel rods cool." The problem with that, of course, is that there are already "three raging meltdowns" under way as Dr. Kaku explains (below). If you abandon efforts to cool the fuel rods, then an accelerated meltdown is "inevitable," says Dr. Kaku.

• Japanese nuclear experts now admit it will require 20 years to decommission the Fukushima nuclear reactors. (http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/2011/03/82090.html)

• Cesium-137 has now been found 25 miles from Fukushima at such dangerously high concentrations that they far exceed the threshold of land abandonment used by the Soviet Union following the Chernobyl catastrophe (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/31/world/asia/31japan.html?_r=1&partner=rss&emc=rss). This is raising questions of whether the evacuation zone around Fukushima should now be expanded.

• It has now been revealed that Japan's nuclear disaster preparedness plans were written by complete morons. The entire Fukushima power plant complex, for example, called for only one emergency stretcher to be on-site, and only 50 protective suits (even though hundreds of people worked there). Do you see shades of the TITANIC at play here? (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB10001424052748703712504576232961004646464.html)

• In a shocking video interview, physicist Dr. Michio Kaku explained, "If it goes to a full-scale evacuation of all personnel, it means that firefighters are no longer putting water onto the cores. That's the only thing preventing a full-scale meltdown at three reactor sites. Once they evacuate, then we past the point of no return. Meltdowns are inevitable at three reactor sites, leading to a tragedy far beyond that of Chernobyl, creating permanent dead zones in Japan." Watch that video at: http://naturalnews.tv/v.asp?v=604AB3FA803FF3647DF6E34EC5E8C8A0

• Meanwhile, the Fukushima denialists are in full swing, complaining that anyone talking about Fukushima's meltdown is "fearmongering." One especially idiotic journalist in the UK constructed a completely fabricated article today, claiming that "nobody has suffered or will suffer any radiological health consequences [from Fukushima]." How's that for a total denial of reality? This writer goes on to say, "The nuclear power plants in the stricken region have suffered less damage and caused less trouble to local residents than anything else that was there." (I'm not linking to this source because they don't deserve the attention, but trust me, this is from a major newspaper in the UK.) It just goes to show you that these spin doctors will stop at nothing to try to convince people that nuclear power is the safest thing in the world. There's little question that most of these denialists are on the payroll of the nuclear industry (or just hate the human race for their own twisted or demonic reasons).

• As reported by the New York Times (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/31/world/asia/31japan.html?_r=1&partner=rss&emc=rss), "The level of radioactive iodine 131 in the waters off the Daiichi plant continued to increase on Thursday, rising to 4,385 times the statutory limit... The increases raise the possibility that contaminants from the plant are continuously leaking into the sea."

• Fears about radioactive seafood are growing as Japan's ocean waters are increasingly contaminated with very high levels of radiation, now even exceeding the 3,300 times recently reported (http://finance.yahoo.com/news/Tainted-seafood-fears-spread-apf-166668369.html?x=0&.v=19).

But remember, everyone: There's nothing to worry about according to your government! Don't be concerned about radiation. It's invisible, so it must be safe!

At least, that's the message we're hearing from many "official" sources. The FDA, laughably, thinks that drinking radioactive milk in the U.S. is just fine for you, but drinking RAW milk is extremely dangerous!

That's how twisted things have become in our world today: The stuff that's actually good for you is outlawed, criticized or suppressed. But the things that are really dangerous for your health -- ionizing radiation, vaccines, GMOs, chemotherapy and pesticides -- are all promoted as the solutions for our world.

It's insane, of course. Beyond insane. And it's all being done in the name of "science," which has proven itself to be the cause of needless suffering, death and destruction across our world. Beware of anything being done today under the claim of being "scientific." That's now a red flag keyword for something that will probably either harm your health or contribute to the destruction of the planet.

Radiation detected in Massachusetts rainwater as Fukushima crisis worsens

Mike Adams
NaturalNews
March 28, 2011

The Fukushima crisis continues to worsen by the day, with nuclear experts around
the world finally realizing and admitting we've all been lied to. "I think maybe
the situation is much more serious than we were led to believe," said Najmedin
Meshkati of the University of Southern California, in a Reuters report (http://www.reuters.com/article/2011...). That same article
revealed that recent radiation readings at Fukushima show "contamination 100,000
times normal in water at
reactor No. 2 and 1,850 times normal in the nearby sea."

Massachusetts
rainwater has also been found to be contaminated with low levels of radiation
from Fukushima,
indicating just how widespread the radioactive fallout has become. It's not just
the West Coast of North America that's vulnerable, in other words: even the East
Coast could receive dangerous levels of fallout if Fukushima suffers a larger
release of radioactive material into the air.

Rolling blackouts are now
continuing throughout Japan
due to the drop in power
production from Fukushima diminishing Japan's electricity generating capacity
(http://english.kyodonews.jp/news/20...). The only reason Japan
isn't experiencing widespread power blackouts right now is because so
many factories were damaged or swept away from the tsunami itself. Once a
serious rebuilding effort gets underway, Japan is going to find itself
critically short of electrical power.

The radiation leaking from
Reactor No. 2 is now measured at 1,000 millisieverts an hour -- more than
enough to cause someone's hair to fall out from a single exposure event.
Radiation sickness can begin at just 100 millisieverts. The extremely high
levels of radiation are, in fact, making it nearly impossible for workers to
continue working at the reactor. "You'd have a lot of difficulty putting anyone
in there," said Richard Wakeford, a radiation epidemiology expert at the Dalton
Nuclear Institute in Manchester. "They're finding quite high levels of radiation
fields, which is impeding their progress dealing with the situation." (http://www.businessweek.com/news/20...)

Taiwan looking to ditch nuclear power? The
worsening Fukushima situation is also starting to spook nearby nations such as
Taiwan, which also
depends on nuclear power. The DPP opposition party there announced today
that it wanted to see nuclear power phased out by 2025. Taiwan is a relatively
small island nation, and a Fukushima-like catastrophe would leave most of the
island residents with nowhere to go. And like Japan, Taiwan is also vulnerable
to earthquakes and tsunamis (as well as hurricanes).

In Germany, massive
demonstrations (200,000 people in four large cities) have brought the nuclear
safety issue to the forefront, contributing heavily to the defeat of Merkel and
the rise to power of the Green Party in southwestern Germany (http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/28/w...). Germans tend to have
very strong opposition to nuclear power, in much the same way that most
Europeans despise genetically modified foods.

The nuclear power industry turns out to be
just as corrupt as Big
Pharma
The truth is that many nations are rethinking nuclear power
right now
, thanks to the corruption, cover-ups and
outright deceptions that we're now finding out were behind the Fukushima power
plant catastrophe. The nuclear industry, it turns out, is one big profit
incest fest
where the regulators are deeply in
bed with the very industry they're supposed to regulate (http://online.wsj.com/article/SB100...).

Then again,
what rich, powerful industry isn't in bed with its regulators? It's true
with Big Pharma and the FDA just as much as it is with the nuclear power
industry and its corrupt regulators. Every government-run regulator
eventually becomes a marketing extension of the industry it was supposed to
regulate
.

That's why Big Government never really works: Most of the
regulators who are supposed to protect the people inevitably end up operating as
industry whores. This entire Fukushima incident is a direct result of
that deep-rooted corruption coming back to haunt humanity.

Watch for more
reporting on this incident here at NaturalNews.com, and subscribe to our daily
email alerts to be kept up to date on the situation: http://www.naturalnews.com/ReaderRe...

The Fukushima
situation is nowhere near over. Now regulators are saying this might take not
just weeks or months to sort out, but even years to fully
rectify.

The half life of plutonium, it turns out, is
a whole lot longer than the entire history of human civilization (24,000 years)
(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plutonium). We would be wise to
remember what we're playing with when we attempt to harness the power of
fission.

Please give a 'Thumbs up'!

Fukushima Reactor No. 3 suffers likely core breach, now leaking water at 10,000 times normal radiation levels

Friday, March 25, 2011
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
Editor of NaturalNews.com
(NaturalNews) The Fukushima situation took a turn for the worse today as two nuclear repair workers stepped into some water at Reactor No. 3 and suffered severe radiation burns requiring immediate hospitalization. The water, it turns out, measures 10,000 times normal radiation levels, and it appears to be leaking from the core of Reactor No. 3.

If confirmed, this can only mean one thing: A containment breach that now risks the spewing of enormous quantities of radiation into the environment, easily dwarfing the releases from Chernobyl in 1986.

Japan's Prime Minister Naoto Kan had some somber words for the world press, saying "The situation today at the Fukushima Dai-ichi power plant is still very grave and serious. We must remain vigilant. We are not in a position where we can be optimistic. We must treat every development with the utmost care." (http://apnews.myway.com/article/20110325/D9M67MAG0.html)

"Even if there has been encouraging news such as getting some power back to the site, the installation remains in an extremely precarious and very serious situation that has not yet been stabilized" said Thomas Houdre from France's nuclear safety agency (http://www.bloomberg.com/news/print/2011-03-22/nuclear-plant-s-fuel-rods-damaged-leaking-into-sea-tokyo-electric-says.html).

Reactor No. 3, of course, is the reactor with the extremely dangerous MOX fuel that's two million times more deadly than regular enriched uranium (http://www.naturalnews.com/031736_plutonium_enriched_uranium.html). This reactor is so dangerous all by itself that it hardly matters whether Reactors 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6 are brought under control if Reactor No. 3 isn't. By itself, this facility could dwarf the radioactive fallout levels caused by the Chernobyl disaster, and now it appears a containment leak is very likely to have occurred.

Radiation from the Fukushima catastrophe has already been detected on vegetables 135 miles South of Fukushima, and the Tokyo water supply has been declared unsafe to consume due to high levels of radiation. Low levels of radioactive fallout has been detected across the United States and Canada, but those levels could rise dramatically if Reactor No. 3 has a sustained containment leak and begins releasing more radiation directly into the environment.

As Prime Minister Kan already stated, "We are not in a position where we can be optimistic." That is a sobering statement from a government that has done its best to downplay the severity of the situation.

What will they do now? If a containment breach has occurred, how will workers be able to even access the nuclear facility to continue making repairs and try to get the cooling pumps online?

Even CNN called this "a potentially ominous development in the race to prevent a large-scale release of radiation." (http://www.cnn.com/2011/WORLD/asiapcf/03/25/japan.nuclear.reactors/index.html)

A breach in the containment vessel is a game-changer. If this leak actually exists, it would make it extremely difficult to bring the situation back under control.

Stay tuned to NaturalNews for more updates as this situation develops.

Doctors use Fukushima-like radiation to "treat" thyroid disorders

Tuesday, March 22, 2011
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
Editor of NaturalNews.com

(NaturalNews) Japan has been reporting for several days that much of the raw milk being produced in the Fukushima province is now radioactive. This raises today's quiz question: If the FDA were operating in Japan, what would they do about this raw, radioactive milk?

Answer: They would seize it because it's RAW, not because it's radioactive.

After all, it is the FDA that has long supported the mass irradiation of the food supply as a way to sterilize it and "kill pathogens." The food irradiation agenda has long been a top priority of the FDA (http://www.naturalnews.com/023015_food_foods_USDA.html). Meanwhile, the FDA has been a steady enemy of raw milk (and other raw foods).

Even today, when you buy almonds grown in California, they must be fumigated or irradiated in order to comply with California state law (which was supported by the USDA and applauded by the FDA). (http://www.naturalnews.com/021989.html)

Perhaps the Fukushima nuclear power plant has a future after all: Instead of producing power, it can function as an FDA-approved food irradiation center where fresh, raw foods are exposed to radiation to make them "safe" for public consumption.
Does your doctorwant to irradiate your thyroid gland?
It's not just your food that's being irradiated, of course: It's also your body. In addition to the radiation-emitting mammography machines and cancer radiotherapy treatment machines used in hospitals every day, there's also a very common radiation treatment for so-called "hyperthyroidism" that involves injecting a radioactive form of iodine into patients and "burning out" their thyroid gland.

Guess what they use for their thyroid radiation treatment? Radioactive iodine -- the same deadly substance being released from the Fukushima power plant!

I can't make this stuff up. The treatment is so dangerous that patients who subject themselves to it set off radiation alarms at airports and transportation centers. The patients are so radioactive that they're told not to stand near any other person for several days because the radiation would damage them. From EPA.gov:

"Key beta emitters used in medical imaging, diagnostic and treatment procedures are phosphorus-32, and iodine-131. For example, people who have taken radioactive iodine will emit beta particles. They must follow strict procedures to protect family members from exposure.

Radioactive iodine may enter the environment during a nuclear reactor accident and find its way into the food chain.

Industrial gauges and instruments containing concentrated beta-emitting radiation sources can be lost, stolen, or abandoned. If these instruments then enter the scrap metal market, or someone finds one, the sources they contain can expose people to beta emitters."

Coming soon: The Fukushima hospital?
The fact that western medicine uses the same deadly radiation being released by the Fukushima nuclear facility as a "treatment" for your thyroid is nothing short of astonishing. Doctors quite literally "fry" patients' thyroid glands with this radiation, and then send them home to die from the inevitable cancers that will result.

This leads to the rather obvious conclusion of what to do with the Fukushima nuclear power plant now that it can no longer be used to generate electricity: Western medical doctors can turn it into the Fukushima hospital to "treat" cancer patients and hyperthyroidism sufferers with yet more radiation!

This is not said in jest. Radiation is used every day throughout the medical industry, even when radiation is the cause of the cancer in the first place. Cancer doctors, you see, have somehow reached the bizarre conclusion that cancer is caused by a lack of radiation and therefore cancer patients need more radiation as a "treatment."

If this philosophy is followed throughout Japan, it will mean that all the cancer victims from the Fukushima catastrophe will be given yet more radiation as a way to treat the cancers they develop. Or perhaps they'll be given chemotherapy, a powerful chemical poison, to go along with the radiation. It all just shows you how completely quacked-out modern cancer treatments really are, doesn't it?

Only in western medicine does the "treatment" consist of pure poison or deadly radiation. And aren't those the very same things that caused cancer in the first place?

Isn't it amazing how doctors say "Don't use sunscreen" because the sun's radiation might give you cancer, but to treat the cancer, they give you artificial radiation from far more dangerous sources? (By "artificial" I mean it is a "contrived" source of radiation that's not normally present in the human environment.)

I think they should rename hyperthyroidism treatments to be the "Fukushima protocol." Radioactive iodine, folks. You can get it either from a nuclear meltdown, or from your doctor.

Oh, and by the way, when they give you radioactive iodine to burn out your thyroid, they specifically tell you in advance to avoid taking in other sources of iodine, or else the radioactive iodine "won't burn out your thyroid good enough" (paraphrased, obviously). Don't protect your body, in other words. That's the message from both the White House and the medical system: Don't take precautions against radiation. Just do what you're told and go along with whatever you're supposed to do, no matter how totally loony that "official" advice might be.

Mainstream media halts accurate reporting on Japan's worsening nuclear catastrophe; disinfo campaign now underway

Natural News
Friday, March 18, 2011
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
Editor of NaturalNews.com

(NaturalNews) Almost as if on cue, the mainstream media today halted nearly all accurate reporting of the worsening situation in Japan, writing off the whole thing as a "non issue." This all happened in a seeming coordinate effort following President Obama's speech on Wednesday that urged Americans to NOT prepare for anything. The American people, Obama insisted, should simply watch television to "stay informed." (http://www.naturalnews.com/031735_Obama_radioactive_fallout.html) Shortly after, mainstream television news returned to its regularly-scheduled sports and entertainment programming, barely touching on the reality of the worsening situation at the Fukushima nuclear power plant in Japan.

Nuclear experts that were on mainstream news channels two days are now nowhere to be found today. Scary (but accurate) news stories about Fukushima have now been all but completely banned from the MSM. The word from the top is clearly that media outlets should start downplaying this nuclear accident, which even now ranks as the second worst nuclear accident in the history of human civilization (right after Chernobyl).

The Asian media, for its part, simply started fabricating completely fictitious news. The press in China and Taiwan, for example, reported last night that grid power had been restored to the Fukushima reactor #2 and that the entire disaster had now been completely averted. This was a total fabrication: The truth is that power plant workers were pulled out of the area before they could even connect grid power, due to rising levels of extremely dangerous radiation near the plant.

Even if grid power were restored to reactor #2, that would not help reactors #3 and #4, where the really dangerous plutonium MOX fuel is stored. It's 2,000,000 times more toxic than enriched uranium (http://www.naturalnews.com/031736_plutonium_enriched_uranium.html).

And even if they could restore power to all the reactors, there's no guarantee that the cooling pumps will even work there. They were very likely damaged in the explosions and may not be functioning at all.

Time to start lying to the people

What to do in such a crisis? If you're the government, the important action is to just lie to the people as much as possible, telling them everything's fine. Even Japan's own political leaders are fed up with it. One Mayor of a Japanese province says his own government abandoned his people and lied to everyone (http://www.naturalnews.com/031747_nuclear_fallout_disinformation.html).

In the United States, the nuclear power industry is now in total spin mode, trying to make sure people don't question the future of nuclear power. General Electric, which manufactured the reactors in the Fukushima power plant, experienced huge stock losses over the last few days. Now, it seems the orders from the top are to tell people nuclear power is "still safe." GE, of course, is a huge asset holder in NBC (http://www.mediaowners.com/company/generalelectric.html), one of the major media players in this whole charade. I very much doubt NBC openly discloses to its viewers that its news reporting may be entirely biased because it is largely owned by the very same corporate conglomerate that earns money from the construction of nuclear power plants.

Even the radiation reporting from U.S. authorities appears to be a whitewash, as detectors in the U.S. are only reporting radiation leaked days ago out of Japan, not the new radiation headed our way (http://www.infowars.com/reports-of-harmless-radiation-reaching-california-are-a-whitewash/).

We are now witnessing the complete transition of this entire story from the "honest reporting" phase to the new "disinformation" phase which seeks to ensure that the people of the world have no real clue what's going on in Fukushima. Don't prepare. Don't worry. Don't think for yourself. Just do whatever the government tells you to do... which is right now nothing.

It's an amazing plan, eh? Sadly, pretending that Fukushima is not a problem does not reverse the laws of nuclear physics at work there. If a massive cloud of radiation bursts into the atmosphere in the coming days, will they also pretend nothing happened? Will the American people be given no warning as a massive radiation cloud approaches?

We must now seriously begin to question the agenda of the Japanese and American governments in all this. Are they actually trying to get more people killed? If not, then why aren't the people being advised to take prudent precautionary measures?

Here at NaturalNews, we urge everyone to get prepared, just in case. Have a preparedness kit. Have a plan. Get informed. Fuel up your vehicles. Boost your iodine intake. Be calm and prepared, folks, so that you don't panic and become part of the problem when things go wrong.

Why can't Obama utter those words, I wonder? Why is the only real leadership on this whole issue coming from the alternative media and not the elected "leaders" of our nation?

Urgent radiation preparedness action items for California, Oregon, Washington, B.C., Yukon and Alaska

Natural News
Thursday, March 17, 2011
by Mike Adams, the Health Ranger
Editor of NaturalNews.com

(NaturalNews) The New York Times report that a radiation plume will reach California by Friday has a lot of people asking us for more information about what to do. (See http://www.nytimes.com/2011/03/17/science/17plume.html?_r=1) Fortunately, the amount of radiation that would actually fall on California (or Oregon, Washington, British Columbia, Alaska, etc.) is currently very small. Too small to pose a serious health risk for right now.

The time to get really concerned is if -- and only if -- the Fukushima reactors suffer a fuel rod "meltdown" event which would release a massive amount of radiation into the atmosphere. The United Nations has calculated that such an event would send a cloud of very powerful radiation headed eastward, arriving on the shores of the United States and Canada within 2-3 days after the meltdown, depending on wind patterns.

Importantly, this will give you some time to take action should such an event occur. The next 24 - 48 hours are crucial in Japan's effort to stop the nuclear fuel rod meltdown. It is entirely unknown whether Japan can succeed in stopping it. The situation remains dire.

Important action items to take right nowIf you live in the western states or provinces of North America, it is extremely important to be prepared by taking the following actions RIGHT NOW:

1) Fuel up your vehicle(s) and be ready to hit the road for a possible evacuation (or hunker down if you're out in the country and feel like you would be safer there).

2) If you plan to stay put, go to the hardware store TODAY and buy large amounts of plastic sheeting and duct tape to seal up your windows and doors. This will help protect you from radioactive fallout. You will also need to store water, food, and all the usual emergency supplies because outside help probably won't be available.

3) If you plan to evacuate, have a "Go Bag" ready to go at a moment's notice. This go bag should include a water filter, emergency radio, flashlight, duct tape, emergency knife, spare cash, whatever medical supplies you might need, extra food and water, spare fuel cans and so on. Have it ready now in case you need it.

4) Significantly increase your intake of iodine-containing foods and superfoods starting right now: Seaweeds are a great source. We've listed our entire inventory of what we have available at our store (http://www.naturalnews.com/031730_iodine_radiation_poisoning.html), but I would actually prefer you to go out and get this locally TODAY at your local health food stores, where possible. You may not have time to wait on a UPS delivery. Fortunately, our store ships from Ojai, California, meaning that if you order foods from us today that are in stock, and you're in California, you could receive them very, very quickly (within 1-2 business days).

5) If you have potassium iodide pills (radiation pills), don't take them yet. Keep them ready to take if and only if a meltdown event occurs and a massive dose of radiation has been released into the atmosphere.

6) Have a plan for you and your family. Where will you meet if you need to evacuate? Don't count on cell phones working. Have a plan of where to go, how to get there and how to survive once you get there.

Why you probably won't be told the truth on all this by "official" sourcesHopefully none of this will be necessary. If they can stop the meltdown at Fukushima, there is virtually no real radiation risk in North America. That's the outcome we're all hoping and praying for.

But if a meltdown takes place, it is almost certain that strong winds will push a massive radiation cloud right into North America within a matter of days, potentially dropping an extremely dangerous quantity of radioactive material on California or other regions. That's the scenario that we all need to be prepared to guard against.

Do not rely on your government to tell you the truth about what's happening. Governments are in the business of "preventing panic" by withholding information you need to know. Governments believe that if too many people know the truth, it might start a panic, and even more people could die in the panic than from the event itself. They may actually be correct at some level on that, but I believe that people have a right to know what's really going on. And the sober, shocking truth of the matter is that as of right now, our world is facing an unprecedented nuclear meltdown event that could dwarf the Chernobyl catastrophe of 1986. We're talking about as many as 600,000 spent fuel rods which are now threatened by fires and loss of cooling fluids. This is not a set of circumstances to be taken lightly.

I urge all NaturalNews readers to take this seriously. Get prepared now. Get your go bag ready just in case. Start boosting your natural iodine intake TODAY. Be ready to head out of Dodge if you're in a geographic area that could be impacted. And then watch the news on this to stay informed (and read NaturalNews for an honest analysis of the situation).

The sad realities of the evacuation of large citiesAnother thing: If a meltdown does occur and an evacuation is announced for parts of the west coast of North America, you will need to be one of the first to head out if you expect to get out at all. The highways around Los Angeles in particular do not have the capacity to handle a mass evacuation. They barely have the capacity to handle rush hour! Imagine what happens if half the people in L.A. try to leave all at the same time... that will be a week-long traffic jam, and people will run out of gas on the highways, abandon their vehicles, and make the highways impassable.

I don't mean to paint this as a worst-case scenario, but I'm trying to give you an accurate description of what might realistically happen if a radiation cloud is headed toward LA and an evacuation effort is announced. If you aren't out of LA by the time the government announces an evacuation, you're probably too late.

By the way, this is actually a good time to own a Prius because a Prius can idle without the engine running and use virtually no gas. A Prius is a great getaway vehicle for jammed evacuation highways where traffic is barely moving. Of course, if you had a Hummer, you could probably just off-road it and bypass all the stalled traffic, but that's a debate for another time...

Be safe and be smart about all this. Think ahead. Get real about what might unfold if a meltdown occurs. This is a time to interrupt your regularly-scheduled programming and start thinking seriously about what you can do to protect yourself and your family. It's better to be prepared than to be caught by the unexpected.

We are lucky in one sense right now because we have forewarning of all this. There is time right now to take preparedness steps to deal with a meltdown event should one occur. I strongly advise all NaturalNews readers to use this time wisely and get squared away for what might be coming.

Just in case, you see. Most of the time, when I preach preparedness, I do so in the context of just getting prepared for "the unexpected." But today, we have the expected! We know Fukushima is about to melt down. We know the winds will carry the radiation to North America. We know that evacuation of major U.S. cities in 48 hours is virtually impossible. And we also know that the supply inventories of certain preparedness items are strictly limited, meaning that not everybody who wants emergency supplies will be able to get them. These are the sobering realities of emergencies in our modern, high-population-density world.

Watch NaturalNews.com for more updates throughout the day. We'll be posting stories at an increased frequency during this Fukushima catastrophe to help bring people information more rapidly.

Iodine for Radiation Exposure: Practical Solutions You Need to Know

Natural News
Wednesday, March 16, 2011
by: Mark Sircus., AC, OMD

(NaturalNews) It is an especially important moment for parents around the world to sit up and take notice of what they will need to do to protect their children against the toxicities that are threatening them from many sources. Now we have a nuclear energy plant with four reactors going completely out of control and medical and health officials are out to lunch. They have no idea about chemical, heavy metal and radiation toxicities believing idiotically as they do, that low levels are safe when we know perfectly well, through hard science, that that is not the case. With the disaster in Japan getting worse by the day parents all over the northern hemisphere need to going rush to get iodine into their medical cabinets right now.
After testing over 500 patients, I found that 94.7 percent of my patients are deficient in inorganic iodine. - Dr. David Brownstein

Clearly we are just at the beginning of this disaster and very far from its end, and already it is unprecedented in scope. "If this accident stops right now it will already be one of the three worst accidents we have ever had at a nuclear power plant in the history of nuclear power," said Joseph Cirincione, an expert on nuclear materials and president of the U.S.-based Ploughshares Fund, a firm involved in security and peace funding.

There is absolutely zero chance that this disaster in progress is going to stop now or any time soon, so precautions need to be taken right away by every citizen in the northern hemisphere that is downwind and on the track of the jet stream that will quickly carry radioactive materials first to North America then to Europe and beyond to Russia. This is all going to be much worse than people want to believe, so rush to get your iodine right now! Get your hands on whatever you can for in a few days there will be no iodine to have of any type.

First part of Interview with Dr. Mark Sircus and Dr. David Brownstein

Second half of Interview

Dr. Brownstein writes, "If there is enough inorganic, non-radioactive iodine in our bodies, the radioactive fallout has nowhere to bind in our bodies. It will pass through us, leaving our bodies unharmed. It is important to ensure that we have adequate iodine levels BEFORE this fallout hits." There is some very important information about iodine below not being presented by the government or press. This is an IMVA Emergency Alert and we will be updating this document in the days and weeks ahead so check back to the IMVA blog for the most current form.

Think again, think seven times again before you leap and start construction of new nuclear power plants. - Mikhail Gorbachev
June 2006

Though the United States, Canadian and European governments are not warning their citizens of the dangers that will drop down on them from the jet stream, this following video does a good visual job of showing what areas will be most affected. With the true size of the catastrophe starting to take shape populations downwind across the entire northern hemisphere had better start becoming concerned enough to secure supplies of iodine to protect themselves from one large part of the radioactive dangers.

Video about jetstream carrying radiation from Japan to North America.

Humans tolerate large doses of iodine so the very high dosages recommended for protection for radioactive iodine are not usually a problem except for those who already have serious problems with their thyroids, which is quite a lot of people considering how many are deficient in this vital nutrient. The government's recommendation of a onetime pulse dose might perhaps be appropriate when confronted with a nuclear blast but for chronic long term exposure, which is suggested with what is in progress in Japan, calls for different formula and dosages through time.

Dr. Michael B. Schachter says, "The treatment dose when a person is iodine insufficient is generally between 12.5 mg and 50 mg daily. Preliminary research indicates that if a person is iodine insufficient, it takes about three months to become iodine sufficient while ingesting a dosage of 50 mg of iodine daily and a year to achieve that while ingesting a dosage of 12.5 mg of iodine daily.

If radiation threatens, it behooves people to start taking the highest dosages tolerable to protect not only their thyroids but also all the glandular tissues as well. Iodine protects the thyroid, breasts, prostate and ovary glands as well as other tissues in the body from radiation if present in sufficient quantities.

When treating life-threatening diseases we do not have months to fool around with low dosages. We need to zoom up iodine levels quickly. And we need to get it concentrated to certain tissues or organs. Just to give you an idea of how high iodine dosages have been taken we have to revisit the 1930s when iodine was still a universal medicine present in the U.S. Pharmacopeia and used at much higher dosages than anyone even dreams of using today.

The usual dose for treatment back then was 300 mgs (46 drops of full strength Lugol's) to 1 gm (1000 mg, 154 drops). It is very important to realize that today's Lugol's is not universally the same as it was because of new federal legal requirements about concentration levels. The best company offers Lugol's at varying concentration levels.

Potassium iodide (also called KI) is a salt of stable (not radioactive) iodine. Stable iodine is an important chemical needed by the body to make thyroid hormones. Following a radiological or nuclear event, radioactive iodine may be released into the air and then breathed into the lungs of any being breathing that air. Radioactive iodine may also contaminate the local food supply and get into the body through food or drink. In the case of internal contamination with radioactive iodine, the thyroid gland quickly absorbs this chemical. Radioactive iodine absorbed by the thyroid can then injure the gland. Because non-radioactive iodine acts to block radioactive iodine from being taken into the thyroid gland, it can help protect this gland from injury.

There will be little or no time to consult doctors and other health care practitioners to get the proper dosage. The standard dose for potassium iodide during radiation emergencies: For infants, babies and children, KI is administered for exposure of 5 centigrays (cGy) or more. For birth through 1 month, 16 mg can be administered; for 1 month through 3 years, 32 mg can be administered; for 3-12 years, 65 mg can be administered; for adolescents ages 12-18 years, 65 mg can be administered (or up to 120 mg if the adolescent is approaching adult size).

Nascent Iodine

Nascent iodine, though more expensive, actually tastes and feels good while going down and is gentle enough to give to children, who do not seem to complain about its taste. My recommendation would be to use the Nascent Iodine in high dosages to both saturate the thyroid (which makes it less vulnerable to chemical and radioactive attack) while it will also knock out any contaminants already absorbed. Nascent iodine contains approximately 400 mcg per drop so 10 drops is 4 mg and 100 drops is only 40 so it's safe to take much higher dosages than is suggested on the bottle. In fact one has to completely ignore the suggested dosages on the bottle and take some of the information below as ones guidance for dealing with threatening radiation dropping down out of the clouds that are moving along with the jet stream.

One hundred drops a day is a strong dose, but when treating life threatening diseases it would not be unheard of to use upward of 200 drops a day in divided doses, but if you get your iodine on the day the news is sounding the radiation alarm I would jump right to 100 drops or 50 drops in divided dosages for children. It is my belief that the Nascent atomic form is much more efficient than the molecular form meaning you would need less but when confronted with a cloud of radiation one wants to work beyond the speculative. Again the government is recommending a onetime dosage, which makes sense if there is no time to address iodine deficiencies.

It normal conditions it is important to remember that one should not shoot straight up to these dosage levels; rather, start at low dosages and monitor for detoxification reactions, which will be less if sodium bicarbonate and other substances are used in conjunction with it. But in emergencies involving radiation we have not the luxury of time so one has to thrust iodine levels up sharply in burst dosages.

Dr. Brownstein said he was using 200-300 mg with his prostate and breast cancer patients, and those who have metastases needing the highest dosages. He also uses both Lugol's and Nascent reserving the Nascent for his more sensitive patients. There is also the tablet form of varying dosages (Iodoral), which is used by more than several of the iodine doctors I know.

Iodine is needed in microgram amounts for the thyroid, milligram amounts for breast and other tissues, and can be used therapeutically in gram amounts - Dr. David Miller

Potassium iodide can be found in many health food stores. Combinations of iodide/iodine can be obtained from holistic physicians. Iodoral, Iodozyme HP, and Lugol's solution are examples of this form of iodine. I prefer the Nascent iodine, especially for children, because it is gentler on the system being that it is in the atomic form making it easy for the body to convert it into the needed forms -- iodide and iodine.

These onetime high pulse dosages of potassium iodine are necessary during an emergency but they do not come without some risk of side effects, which include: severe allergic reactions (rash, hives, difficulty breathing, tightness in the chest, swelling of the mouth, face, lips or tongue), black, tarry stools, confusion, fever, irregular heartbeat, metallic taste in the mouth, mouth sores, numbness or tingling of the hands or feet, skin rash, stomach pains, swelling in the neck or throat, unusual tiredness, weakness.

Endocrinologic side effects have included both hyper- and hypothyroidism. By inhibiting the release of thyroid hormone from the thyroid gland, iodide can cause goiter and hypothyroidism. This has been called the Wolff-Chaikoff effect, occurring in approximately four percent of patients and may be more likely in patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Iodide may induce hyperthyroidism, called the Jod-Basedow effect, when given to patients with preexisting iodide deficiency or autonomous, "hot" thyroid nodules. Iodide can cause parotid gland swelling.

Usually, side effects of potassium iodide happen when people take higher doses for a long time but they can occur from taking the government's recommended onetime pulse dose. The standard warning from the mainstream is that "we should be careful not to take more than the recommended dose or take it for longer than you are told," which is only once. "Side effects are unlikely because of the low dose and the short time you will be taking the drug." This is not good advice at all since too-low dosages will not protect one from the radioactive iodine fallout and the short time of application is absolutely out of the question when the fallout will be continuous, as it will be because of the continuous venting of radioactive materials into the atmosphere at the crippled Japanese reactor sites.

When faced with a radioactive cloud it is absolutely imperative that you take iodine, whatever iodine you can get your hands on. If the only iodine available is topical iodine that is not suitable for oral use then you should paint your body and your children's bodies with it. Few people have ready access to the Nascent iodine so will not enjoy its ease of application in repeated measured dosages that are more gentle to the system, thus yielding fewer side effects. Because Nascent is in the atomic form (I1), it is absorbed faster and that can also be advantageous in emergency situations. Its only downside is the expense of having to use so much of it.

Don't Trust Governments Recommendations
Dr. John W. Gofman, Professor Emeritus of Molecular and Cell Biology in the University of California at Berkeley, has written extensively about the effort to belittle the menace of low-level radiation. People associated with the nuclear and medical industries assert falsely, "there is no evidence that exposure to low-dose radiation causes any cancer -- the risk is only theoretical," or "the risk is utterly negligible," or "the accidental exposures were below the safe level," and even "there is reasonably good evidence that exposure to low-dose radiation is beneficial and lowers the cancer rate." By any reasonable standard of scientific proof, the weight of the human evidence shows decisively that cancer is inducible by ionizing radiation even at the lowest possible dose and dose-rate -- which means that the risk is never theoretical.

Nobel Laureate Linus Pauling described this process as follows: "The rays of high-energy radiation are like little bullets that shoot through the body. They tear electrons away from molecules and through subsequent reactions of the molecular ions that are formed, the molecules may be broken in two, some atoms may be torn away from them, some new molecules may be formed. The dose of 500 roentgens that usually leads to death by acute radiation sickness causes about 500,000 changed molecules to be formed in each cell. If any of the special molecules [that control the process by which the cell divides] happen to be damaged by a single little bullet of radiation from a single radioactive atom, it may be changed in such a way as to cause the cell to divide much more rapidly than the other cells. This cell may then produce a colony of rapidly dividing cells, which in the course of time would outnumber the normal cells of that type. Then the human being may die from cancer -- perhaps leukemia, bone cancer, some other kind of cancer -- caused by the single radioactive atom that produced the single little bullet of radiation."

Radioactive materials, plutonium in particular, affect the deepest level of the human being -- bone marrow, DNA, genetic structure, inner organs and the deepest of emotions. The message is clear. We have created a horrific heritage. - Jeremy Sherr

Iodine will do nothing to protect a person from uranium, cesium or plutonium radiation exposure so one has to turn to my full protocol and especially to eating clay and clay baths to try to remove these other particles as fast as possible.

Radioactivity Detected 60 Miles From Fukushima Power Plant

Tyler Durden
Zero Hedge
March 14, 2011

The latest in an endless escalation of bad news comes from Seattle Times: “Pentagon officials reported Sunday that helicopters flying 60 miles from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant picked up small amounts of radioactive particulates — still being analyzed, but presumed to include cesium-137 and iodine-121 — suggesting widening environmental contamination. The detection of the highly radioactive elements heralds the beginning of an ecological and human tragedy. The two radioactive isotopes can mean only one thing: One or more of the reactor cores is badly damaged and at least partially melted down.” If true, this also means that the Japanese government is blatantly lying to its people and the world, in its relentless determination to prevent panic and to pursue the party line that after two massive blasts the cores are still stable. And judging by the time stamp, this was announced before last night’s second blast: if radioactivity had spread then, how about now? And who can blame Americans and people around the world who are concerned that radiation may be coming their way if nobody is to be trusted.

Japanese reactor operators now have little choice but to periodically release radioactive steam until the radioactive elements in the fuel of the stricken reactors stop generating intense heat, a process that can continue for a year or more even after fission has stopped.

In the best case, operators will pump enough seawater and other coolants to squelch overheating. Such a success would prevent further releases of radiation beyond the unknown amount spewed into the air by controlled venting and the explosion of a reactor containment building.

In such a scenario, the only casualties would probably be the handful of plant workers reported Sunday to be suffering from acute radiation sickness.

If the last-ditch efforts to cool the reactors fail, the heavy cylindrical cores — each containing tons of radioactive fuel — could flare to hotter than 4,000 degrees and melt through the layers of steel and cement engineered to contain them.

Such a meltdown may be under way, said Arnie Gundersen, chief engineer at the consulting firm Fairewinds Associates. Gundersen helps oversee the Vermont Yankee nuclear plant, whose reactors are the same vintage and design as those of the stricken Japanese reactor.

If a full meltdown occurs, a huge molten lump of radioactive material would burn through all containment, destroy the building and fall to the ground, exposed. A toxic stew of exotic radioactive particles would then spread on the wind and rain.

And keeping the news going is the update from NHK that at least 11 people have died in the second blast reported earlier:

At least eleven people died in a second explosion at the Fukushima nuclear plant in north-eastern Japan on Monday, NHK TV said.

The build-up of hydrogen caused reactor no. 3 to explode at around 02:00 GMT but the government’s top spokesman, Yukio Edano, said its core was still intact. He said there was a “low possibility” of a rise in radiation levels near the damaged plant.

A blast occurred in the plant’s reactor no. 1 on Saturday.

The plant’s operator, Tokyo Electric Power Co., told the TV station that the cooling system at reactor no. 2 has failed.

Rosemary Found to Offer Best Protection against Radiation Poisoning

Natural News
Monday, April 20, 2009
by: Barbara L. Minton, citizen journalist

(NaturalNews) The U.S. is turning into radiation nation. In the twenty-three years since Chernobyl, Americans seem to have forgotten the impact of radiation on health. Swept up in the euphoria over an endless parade of wireless devices, we have turned our backs on the common sense that informed us that Chernobyl was a really big deal when we heard the news. Today Americans act as though they are addicted to radiation and completely oblivious of the jack-hammering effect it has on human cells. They appear willing to accept cancer and even death as small prices to pay for the ability to communicate with anyone, anywhere, anytime. As the nation eagerly anticipates the rollout of WiMAX, promising bone-incinerating coverage of 3,000 square miles from a single tower, those who object find they have no voice and no choice. However, recent research has shown there are steps to take in self-preservation. Carnosic and rosmarinic acids naturally deter radiation poisoning.

RF/microwave exposure leads to cancer development

It has been know for a decade that RF/microwaves from cell phones and tower transmitters cause damage in human blood cells that results in nuclei splintering off into micronuclei fragments. The development of micronuclei heralds the development of pre-cancerous conditions. Many victims of Chernobyl developed blood cell micronuclei that rapidly turned into full blown cancers.

Numerous animal studies have demonstrated that mobile phone radiation quickly causes DNA single and double strand breaks at levels well below the current federal "safe" standards. A six-year industry study showed that human blood exposure to cell phone radiation had a 300 percent increase in genetic damage in the form of micronuclei, suggesting a health threat much greater than smoking or asbestos.

Compounds from rosemary fight against mutagenic effects of radiation

In two separate studies, scientists in Spain found that nothing fights radiation damage to micronuclei like a simple garden herb known as rosemary. They noted that ionizing radiation causes the massive generation of free radicals that induce cellular DNA damage. They studied the protective effects of several compounds against gamma ray induced chromosomal damage in micronuclei testing by adding various compounds to human blood before and after irradiation. When the compounds were added after gamma-irradiation treatment, the protective effects relied not on scavenging ability, but on activity against free radicals already present in the cells, such as lipoperoxy radicals which are mainly responsible for continuous chromosomal oxidative damage.

The fact that carnosic acid and carnosol found in rosemary are fat soluble allows them to provide highly asignificant protective anti-mutagenic activity. Even the most powerful water-soluble antioxidants lack the capacity to protect against gamma ray induced damage. This study can be found in the British Journal of Radiology, February 2 edition.

In their second study, the generation of radiation induced cellular DNA damage to skin from free radicals was the focus. The researchers sought to demonstrate that rosmarinic acid from rosemary would act as a photo-protector both by acting as a scavenger of free radicals and as an inducer of the body's own endogenous defense mechanisms by regulating tyrosinase activity and stimulating melanin production. They found that formulation of toxic malonyldialdehyde was delayed by the use of rosmarinic acid, and the protection factor was 3.34 times greater than for other compounds studied, as measured in micronucleus testing. In vivo testing showed the capacity of orally administered rosmarinic acid to inhibit skin alterations as a result of UV radiation exposure. This study was reported in the February edition of Food and Chemical Toxicology.

Common food compound protects lymphocytes against radiation

In a study from India, scientists investigated the radio-protective potential of caffeic acid against gamma radiation-induced cellular changes. A dose of 66 microM of caffeic acid showed the optimum protection of micronuclei and was used to investigate the radio-protective effects of the compound. Lymphocytes were pre-incubated with caffeic acid and controls were not. All the lymphocytes were exposed to different doses of radiation. Genetic damage and biochemical changes were measured. Gamma irradiated control lymphocytes showed a radiation dose-dependent increase in genetic damage and a significant decrease in antioxidant status. Caffeic acid pretreated lymphocytes positively modulated all radiation induced changes. This study is found in the 2008 Journal of Biochemical and Molecular Toxicology.

Food sources offering significant amounts of caffeic acid are apples, citrus fruits, and cruciferous vegetables.

RF/microwave radiation has the same effect on health as gamma rays

A pile of research has confirmed that non-ionizing communications radiation in the RF/microwave spectrum has the same effect on human health as ionizing gamma wave radiation from nuclear reactions. This means that Chernobyl has effectively come to America. Injuries resulting from radioactive radiation are identical with the effects of electromagnetic radiation. In the U.S., deadly high frequency radiation is now blasting from tens of thousands of cell towers and rooftop antennas all over the country. The tiny city of San Francisco, has over 2,500 licensed cell phone antennas positioned at 530 locations to nuke its citizens around the clock.

There is no safe dose of radiation

RF/microwave and gamma waves are identical in their abilities to produce gene damage and cancer at the cellular level, and there is no safe dose of either. Cell damage is not dependent on a certain level of exposure because at any time in that exposure, breaks in DNA can occur.

Communication antennas saturate the environment with multiple electromagnetic frequencies simultaneously. The response to this endless cellular jiggling is graphically described by Amy Worthington in her article on the radiation poisoning of America. "Human DNA hears this energetic cacophony loud and clear, reacting like the human ear would to high volume country music, R&B plus rock and roll screaming from the same speaker simultaneously. Irradiated cells struggle to protect themselves against the destructive dissonance by hardening their membranes. They cease to receive nourishment, stop releasing toxins, die prematurely and spill micronuclei fragments into a sort of tumor bank account." According to an expert quoted in her article, 2000 hours of cellular phone exposure, or a latency period of about 10 years, increases the risk of brain cancer by 240 percent.

Many studies have shown that workers exposed to RF/microwave radiation routinely have inflated cancer rates, and the latency period between exposure and disease development is short. Some suspect that communications carriers exceed FCC exposure limits. Once equipment is installed and inspections are completed, it can be cranked up to create wider coverage. The FCC has sole regulatory authority over the communications industry, but has neither the money nor the employees to conduct verification testing. Even if they could do the monitoring, their guidelines are obsolete based on current scientific findings that have shown damage to human cells occurs at levels thousands of times lower than current standards permit. In other countries the allowed exposure levels are much less. Russia's standards are 100 times more stringent than those in the U.S., because their scientists have found that human hearts, kidneys, livers and brains are damaged at much lower exposure levels.

When is comes to protecting against radiation, we are on our own

Since the beginning of the wireless revolution, there have been no federally funded studies to determine the impact of constantly escalating levels of radiation on public health. Most people remain blissfully unaware of their proximity to towers and transmitters. They are also unaware of their levels of exposure in their workplaces where wireless transmitters may be located just a few feet away from them.

Some of the symptoms of overexposure to radiation are heart palpitations, diminishing hearing ability, headaches, sleep disturbance, chronic fatigue, endocrine problems, short term memory difficulties, sleep disturbance, chronic fatigue, frequent infections, reproductive issues, and reduced cognitive ability and information processing difficulties. The development of tumors and cancer is one big indication that something is radically wrong, and that something may be radiation poisoning.

What is a person to do about these symptoms? Right now it looks like the best defense against radiation poisoning is the same as the best defense against all diseases. This defense begins with diet and supplements. Eating a diet high in apples, citrus fruits, cruciferous vegetables, drinking red wine, and using fresh rosemary have been scientifically shown to be effective. Supplements of rosemary extract containing carnosic and rosmarinic acids are widely available. Supplements of DIM offer higher doses of one of the most potent compounds in cruciferous vegetables. Broccoli sprouts are the best source of sulphoraphane, another highly potent compound in cruciferous vegetables. Broccoli sprouts are available as supplements too. Making a pitcher of fresh vegetable juice several times a week for all family members to drink is a great way to fortify everyone against an environment that has turned against them. The juice should contain high amounts of broccoli, cabbage or other cruciferous vegetables. Adding a small slice of fresh ginger will give the juice an appealing flavor. Use only organic or fresh locally grown vegetables if they are available.

Although it may not seem like it, living without the use of wireless devices is possible. Until giant steps are taken in that direction, demanding that wireless emissions from transmitters be drastically reduced is fairly pointless. Demanding the government conduct routine compliance testing at all transmission sites and update federal radiation exposure standards is something that can be done right now.

We can break our radiation addition by giving up wireless internet systems and cell phone calls. Once knowledge is instilled about the devastating health consequences of wireless, it may no longer be fun to play wireless games and chatter on the phone while driving or shopping. If people do not buy WiMAX devices and their related services, the increased brutal bombardment of radiation it promises will be derailed.

OSHA standards say that no environment should be deliberately made hazardous. Armed with the knowledge of what radiation does to human cells, people can refuse to work or shop in environments that endanger their health. They can demand that wireless devices be removed from their children's schools and from their work and entertainment places.

As a nation we bought into the advertisement that cell phones were necessary for an emergency. Yet the emergency happening now is the cell phone. What we thought would keep ourselves and our families safe now threatens to kill us. A look at our teenagers shows that convenience has been replaced by addiction. These teens rarely talk directly to each other, preferring endless communication through text messaging that is already producing teens with carpal tunnel syndrome. It really doesn't have to be this way.

If we as a people are unable to break away from radiation addiction, Mother Nature will take control of the situation. Those lucky enough to adapt to radiation nation will survive and reproduce. Those who cannot keep up genetically will end up like the dinosaurs.
